Become a volunteer

Volunteers are present in families on a long-term and regular basis. Parents are helped to utilize their strengths and social network. This support reduces stress and improves access to resources. Social support, solidarity, and socio-cultural awareness are key concepts.
Practical
As a volunteer, you make 2-3 hours of your time available once a week to visit your family.
You'll receive training before you begin. Stapsteen also organizes training sessions or peer-to-peer coaching sessions every 4-6 weeks where you can exchange ideas with other volunteers and gain new insights.
You will receive support throughout the year from one of our family coaches (or DUO counselors).
You sign a volunteer contract and we will enroll you in our volunteer insurance for as long as you are a volunteer.
One volunteer - one family - once a week - for one year
Volunteers build trusting relationships with families and provide support tailored to their individual needs and schedule. They encourage community contact and use of local services.
Practical support and friendship help parents become more confident in their parenting role, which has a positive effect on the children's development.

Our stories
"The most important thing for me is that all children here feel loved, valued, and important enough to be themselves in peace."
"I look forward to visiting them every week and experience a lot of warmth from them too."
“We give those kids a good time and that's what I do it for.”
"I noticed how the child gradually gained more and more self-confidence."
"In short,
'what you give is what you get'.
The love and attention you give, you get back double."
"What makes me enthusiastic is discovering talents and meeting each other in this through activities."
