What do we do?

Wat doen we ?

Solidarity family support

Solidarity in family support means standing alongside families as equals.Listening attentively to the stories of families, seeing and hearing parents and children.

Embarking on a journey with the family and adapting to their world, situation, and resilience. By providing support, we tailor it as closely as possible to the family's needs and, together, build a broader social network.

Prevention through presence

"Being present" literally means "being present." Family coaches and volunteers use different frameworks to shape and substantiate their support for families.
These frameworks share a strong belief in the resilience of families and children, even in vulnerable situations, provided they are surrounded by a supportive network during difficult times.

Volunteer support workers visit the family's home weekly. They listen, provide support with administration or daily routines, and offer language support.

Together with the family, they explore leisure and educational opportunities available in the neighborhood, building trust and a stronger network. Our volunteer support staff will accompany a family for a year, at the family's request. By regularly spending time together, the family and the volunteer enrich each other.

School support

Schoolse ondersteuning

In collaboration with several primary schools, Stapsteen offers in-home school support. With this service, we aim to invest in a smooth transition from kindergarten to primary school for children who need extra support in their first year.

Eligible children receive after-school support at home from interns or volunteers. A parent is always involved in the support.

Play and learn groups
In collaboration with various primary schools, we offer support to children who have difficulty learning, who have lost their joy in learning, or who want to explore their talents more fully.
In addition to helping them with homework, we want them to rediscover how fun and engaging learning can be.

Three times a week, 15 children come to the Stapsteenhuis to discover their talents and learn through play under the guidance of interns and staff.

Key words for school support are: learning through play, creativity, actively using Dutch, discovering talents, growing, having fun.

In small groups, the children work in a playful manner, based on their own interests.

Neighborhood work and outreach

Stapsteen works closely with the neighborhood in all its facets. We want to build a strong, supportive community with deep roots.

The POP-UP
Every Wednesday afternoon, a play afternoon is organized at the Modelwijk for children aged 4-12. It's an opportunity for parents to socialize.

The Mother Group
We host the Mother's Group on-site every week. This intercultural group aims to bring together and connect mothers with young children. It's a place for parenting questions, exchange, creativity, and fun. Looking for (new) friendships with other moms in the same life stage? Join our Mother's Group.

The Toy Library
We regularly open our toy library (especially during the holidays). You can not only borrow games but also come and play with some of our interns or staff.

Play weeks
Twice a year we organize a play week with fun activities and excursions for children who cannot go on holiday.
